Crystal Palace’s Wayne Hennessey explains why he didn’t make a Nazi salute in Max Meyer’s photo

Crystal Palace’s Wayne Hennessey & Nazi salute

Crystal Palace’s Welsh international goalie Wayne Hennessey has made headlines for the wrong reasons.

Max Meyer, the German midfielder who joined Crystal Palace in the summer, posted an eye-catching photo on his Instagram account on Sunday.

The Eagles squad were pictured on a night out in London.

As the squad sat around a table, Hennessey, sat at the back, focused attentions.

That’s because Hennessey appeared to make a Nazi salute in the photo.

However, according to the Eagles keeper, he never made a Nazi gesture but rather he was the victim of bad timing.

Wayne Hennessey explains what happened

Max Meyer has since deleted the photo from his social media account.

But not before the image had been saved by others.

Accordingly, Hennessey, facing plenty of questions about his gesture, has been forced to explain what happened on Twitter.

According to the goalie, he is the the victim of coincidence:

Yesterday evening I had a meal with my team mates and we had a group photograph. I waved and shouted at the person taking the picture to get on with it and at the same time put my hand over my mouth to make the sound carry.

It’s been brought to my attention that frozen in a moment by the camera this looks like I am making a completely inappropriate type of salute. I can assure everyone I would never ever do that and any resemblance to that kind of gesture is absolutely coincidental.
