Crystal Palace’s two injury blows & why Leicester subbed James Maddison

Crystal Palace 1 – Leicester 0

Crystal Palace were without the suspended Wilfried Zaha on Saturday against Leicester.

But the Eagles picked up a big 1-0 win at Selhurst Park to boost their survival hopes.

Luka Milivojević found the target in the 39th minute, and Palace held on for the win.

Palace are 15th in the league with 15 points from 17 games. Leicester are 11th in the league with 22 points.

Cheikhou Kouyate & Wayne Hennessey

When the Palace team sheet came out there was a surprise in the Eagles XI.

Wayne Hennessey was out of the matchday squad, while Vicente Guaita started his first Premier League match in goal.

After the Leicester game, Roy Hodgson confirmed that Hennessey missed the match through injury.

Hennessey’s setback came in Palace’s final training session before Leicester.

It’s unclear how long Hennessey will be out for.

In the 65th minute Cheikhou Kouyate was subbed out the match for Jeffrey Schlupp.

Hodgson has also confirmed that Kouyate picked up an injury against Leicester.

Palace are next in action next weekend when they travel to face Man City.

Why Leicester subbed James Maddison

Claude Puel made a surprise change at the break in south London.

England international James Maddison was subbed out the game while Rachid Ghezzal came on.

Amazingly, Puel later revealed that he took Maddison off for tactical reasons.

Put another way, Maddison isn’t injured.

It’s worth noting that Maddison is Leicester’s top scorer this season.
