Crystal Palace vs Watford betting tips: Premier League match preview and predictions

Crystal Palace vs Watford prediction: Crystal Palace 0-2 Watford

Two sides, who both appear to be going in the right direction, meet at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace are in decent form and have climbed away from danger in recent weeks.

Watford meanwhile, despite patchy form, are in eighth place and looking to kick on.

Who’ll leave South London victorious?

Crystal Palace vs Watford: Who will win?

With their home advantage, Crystal Palace are favourites at 6/5 to make it back to back wins.

Watford, who’ve only won 3 of their last 17 meetings, are big outsiders at 23/10 to win this one.

A draw is also 23/10.

Selhurst Park has seen less goals than any other Premier League ground this season and under 2.5 goals is 8/11.

Both teams to score no is 10/11.

Jordan Ayew has two in his last two for Palace. The Ghanian is 13/2 to score first and 9/4 to make that three in three.

Troy Deeney will be leading the line for Watford after scoring at Woking last Sunday. He’s also 13/2 to score first and 5/2 to score anytime.

Both Ayew and Deeney to score is 10/1.

Crystal Palace vs Watford: Match preview

Somewhat out of nowhere, Crystal Palace have found some form.

Last weekend they beat Grimsby Town 1-0 in the FA Cup to follow some impressive league victories.

Between 22 September and 8 December, the Eagles won just once, amassing just 6 points in those 11 matches.

However, a 1-0 win over Leicester followed by the stunning 3-2 win away to Manchester City saw confidence return to the squad.

They could only back that up with a goalless draw against Cardiff and a narrow 1-0 home loss to Chelsea.

But, in their first league match of 2019, they beat Wolverhampton Wanders 2-0 at Molineux to open up a 6-point gap between them and the bottom 3.

Can they climb up the table further with another win?

Watford meanwhile will be very happy with their league position.

Javi Gracia’s side started the season like a bullet train with 4 straight wins including a 2-1 win over Palace in the reverse fixture.

However, they then only won 2 of their subsequent 12 matches.

Nevertheless, victories over Cardiff and West Ham over the festive period got them back on track.

They were then beaten by Chelsea and disappointing in a 1-1 draw with Newcastle.

There was nothing disappointing about their last league match though.

Six first half goals were shared at Dean Court as Watford and Bournemouth played out a 3-3 thriller on 2 January.

Last Sunday, the Hornets saw off National League South side Woking 2-0 in the FA Cup to progress to the fourth round.

Now they’ll be looking to get back to winning ways in the league can they do just that?

The majority of Roy Hodgson’s side picks itself right now.

Spanish summer signing Vicente Guaita appears to have displaced Wayne Hennessey as the number 1 goalkeeper.

Guaita has kept 5 clean sheets and let in just 4 goals in his 8 Palace appearances; not bad.

In defence, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, James Tomkins, Mamadou Sakho and Patrick van Aanholt have all started over 18 times this season and are a settled back 4.

Hodgson does have a decision to make in midfield though.

Luka Milivojević and Cheikhou Kouyaté will both start.

Alongside them will be one of James McArthur or Max Meyer; the latter did impress in the cup last weekend.

Further forward two players have departed the club this week.

Alexander Sørloth joined Belgian side K.A.A. Gent on loan for the rest of the season on Wednesday.

Jason Puncheon too has left the club; he’s joined Huddersfield on loan.

Christian Benteke is back from injury but is likely to be on the bench.

Jordan Ayew will look to continue his impressive form having scored in both of his last two appearances.

Will they get just their third home win of the season?

Abdoulaye Doucoure

As for Javi Gracia, he made 11 changes for the trip to Woking but this is expected to be a more familiar line up.

Heurelho Gomes was in goal for that tie but, having started every Premier League game so far, Ben Foster will be restored.

At the back, Christian Kabasele should be back from a back injury he sustained against Chelsea.

Kiko Femenía appears to be the first choice right-back.

José Cholevas’ cross-shot decided the match between these two back in August.

That’s one of 146 crosses he put in this season, only Everton’s Lucas Digne has provided more.

Will Hughes’ goal at Kingfield should see him displace Ken Sema on the right hand side.

Abdoulaye Doucouré is still at Watford despite strongly being linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

He’ll be partnered by either Étienne Capoue or Domingos Quina in midfield; it’s likely to be the former.

Adalberto Peñaranda made his long awaited debut for the club last weekend, three years after signing for them, but is unlikely to start here.

Gerard Deulofeu will continue upfront alongside captain Troy Deeney who has 4 career goals against Palace.

Will it be another win for the high-flying Hornets?
