Crystal Palace & Everton: Frank Lampard’s initial transfer issues at Stamford Bridge

Frank Lampard & Chelsea

Unless something goes drastically wrong, Chelsea should finally confirm the appointment of Frank Lampard as their new manager today.

Lampard, Chelsea’s all-time leading goalscorer, is returning to the Blues from Derby County.

In his first year in management, Lampard took Derby to the Championship playoff final. The Rams, though, lost to Aston Villa.

Lampard reportedly spent six hours in west London on Wednesday preparing for his Chelsea unveiling.

Crystal Palace & Everton transfer issues

In the Times on Thursday, the broadsheet analyse some initial transfer issues which Lampard will have to handle.

Of course, Chelsea are unable to buy any new players due to their FIFA transfer ban.

How will that transfer ban affect fringe players at Stamford Bridge? The Times report that Crystal Palace and Everton are scouting two Chelsea outsiders:

Everton want to sign Kurt Zouma on a permanent deal after the centre back spent last season on loan.

The futures of Marcos Alonso and Davide Zappacosta are in doubt while Michy Batshuayi is wanted by Crystal Palace.

Batshuayi spent the back-end of the 2018-19 season with the Eagles.

Derby’s compensation

How much will Chelsea pay Derby for Lampard?

For taking their manager, the Times believes that Chelsea will pay Derby 4 million pounds.

However, that figure is set to swell, as the Blues are set to also sign several members of Derby’s backroom staff too.

It’s unclear how much the Pensioners will pay for those coaches.

Lampard’s 1st Chelsea match

Lampard is expected to be Chelsea’s manager for the club’s first pre-season game away in Ireland against Bohemians.

Chelsea will also face St. Patrick’s during their Irish tour.

That’s followed by games against Kawasaki Frontale, Barcelona, Reading, RB Salzburg and Borussia Monchengladbach.

Chelsea start their 2019-20 Premier League season at Man United on August 11th.
