Crystal Palace’s right-back issue
Who will play at right-back for Crystal Palace this season?
After an incredible 2018-19 season, Aaron Wan-Bissaka joined Man United for 50 million pounds.
While that was an amazing deal for Palace for one of the club’s graduates, it’s also left Roy Hodgson with a major issue at the back.
Palace’s current right-back options are Joel Ward and Martin Kelly.
Will the Eagles sign a new defender before the start of the season?
Crystal Palace & Chelsea’s Reece James
Over the weekend, reports circled that Crystal Palace are trying to sign Chelsea’s Reece James.
James, a highly-regarded 19-year-old full-back, is currently injured on the sidelines.
While playing for England’s U20’s at the Toulon Tournament in the summer, James suffered knee ligament damage against Chile.
Nevertheless, the Eagles have reportedly seen a 20 million pound offer rejected for the Chelsea teenager. The Star told their readers the following:
Starsport understands Chelsea have rejected a £20m bid for James.
The Blues see their academy product as a prospect for the future and they’re not willing to let him go while they have a transfer ban.
Crystal Palace are one of a number of clubs monitoring Reece James’ situation at Chelsea, Sky Sports News understands

On Monday, Sky Sports have doubled-down on Palace’s interest in James.
In a report on the broadcaster’s website, Sky have claimed:
Crystal Palace are one of a number of clubs monitoring Reece James’ situation at Chelsea, Sky Sports News understands.
But Sky Sports News understands Chelsea are highly unlikely to sell the 19-year-old this summer.
Who is Reece James?
Having been brought up in Chelsea’s academy, Reece James made a name for himself last season on loan at Wigan.
James played 45 times for the Latics last season in all competitions.
The youngster was also voted into the EFL Championship team of the season.
The defender is under contract at Chelsea until 2022.
Will Recce James break into Chelsea’s team this season?
Right now James’ priority is to regain fitness.
The defender is expected to be back in training in September.
However, even with Chelsea’s transfer ban, James’ path into the Chelsea XI seems tough.
Cesar Azpilicueta, 29, has cemented himself as Chelsea’s right-back, and the Spaniard is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2022.
Also seemingly above James in the defensive pecking order at Stamford Bridge are Andreas Christensen, David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger.
In addition, it’s unclear whether Davide Zappacosta and Kurt Zouma will remain at Chelsea in 2019-20.
