Cristiano Ronaldo's sister casts doubt over reason behind Manchester Derby absence


 

The latest social media activity on the part of the sister of Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has caused quite a stir on Sunday afternoon.

For those not aware, word was forthcoming earlier today that hitman Ronaldo was amongst a trio of key members of Ralf Rangnick's squad set to miss out on the action in the fast-approaching Manchester Derby.

The others? Edinson Cavani and Raphael Varane:

The immediate assumption upon news of Ronaldo's impending absence making its way online, in turn, was that the Portuguese icon had picked up some form of fitness issue, or perhaps an illness.

As alluded to above, however, if the latest social media activity on the part of the 37-year-old's sister is anything to go by, then this, in fact, may not be the case.

As spotted by eagle-eyed fans on Instagram, Katia Aveiro, Ronaldo's sister, favourited a post a short time ago, which suggested that her sibling has been dropped owing to 'tactical reasons':

The outcome of this evening's derby, of course, could prove to be crucial when it comes to not only the race for the Premier League title, but also the top-4.

This comes with Sunday's hosts, Manchester City, desperate to reestablish their 6-point advantage over Liverpool, amid the rampant spell of form being enjoyed by Jurgen Klopp's troops.

United, on the other hand, are set to be ousted from their Champions League-clinching berth in short order, should Arsenal translate their current 3-1 lead over Watford into all three points.
