Cristiano Ronaldo will be awarded first ever FIFA ‘The Best’ tomorrow

Ronaldo’s incredible 2016

Cristiano Ronaldo won the Ballon D’Or 2016 – and he now looks set for another prestigious individual award.

It was Ronaldo’s 4th Ballon D’Or award, and he’s now just one behind record-holder Lionel Messi, who has 5.

It was a trophy-laden year for Ronaldo, as he won the Champions League with Real Madrid, and followed it up by captaining Portugual to glory at the European Championships.

Ronaldo’s obsession with individual records and prizes is well documented, and he’ll be delighted to have closed in on his eternal rival Messi.

Will lift ‘The Best’ tomorrow

And he can now go one better than Messi, by winning the first FIFA ‘The Best’ award.

According to Marca, he has been voted as ‘The Best’ and will win FIFA’s award in Zurich tomorrow.

Strangely, the noise around FIFA’s ‘The Best’ has been largely muted; there’s been nowhere near the level of hype that surrounds the Ballon D’Or.

Maybe the cheesy brand name wasn’t the wisest idea on hindsight…
