Cristiano Ronaldo slated for ’embarrassing’ dive vs PSG

Viewers of the clash between PSG and Real Madrid have taken to social media in their numbers this evening to slate Cristiano Ronaldo, after the Portuguese attacker went to ground under little to no contact in an attempt to win a first-half penalty.

Giants collide

Los Blancos welcomed their big-spending opponents to the Bernabeu for the first-leg of their Champions League last-16 tie 3 weeks ago, eventually emerging with a 3-1 victory courtesy of a double from Cristiano Ronaldo and a late Marcelo strike.

The two sides are currently locked in action at the Parc des Princes for the tie’s 2nd-leg, with the score at 0-0 at half-time.

The opening 45 minutes saw clear-cut chances few and far between, with PSG controlling the majority of possession, but Karim Benzema presented with the best goalscoring opportunity of the half in an angled 1-on-1 with Alphonse Areola.

Though there were few genuine chances to get excited about, there were plenty of other talking points before the interval, with one having come within the opening 20 minutes, as Cristiano Ronaldo attempted to get on the end of a slide-rule pass through the PSG back four.

However, rather than stay on his feet and continue his run, Ronaldo instead went to ground under essentially no contact from Dani Alves, with viewers having since absolutely torn into the Portuguese star online:
