Cristiano Ronaldo primed to equal another all-time record in Man United’s meeting with Young Boys

Manchester United attacker Cristiano Ronaldo is in line to etch his name ever further into the history books of European football on Tuesday.

CL returns

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are set to get the club’s latest continental campaign underway in a little under 24 hours’ time.

The Red Devils face a trip to Switzerland, to take on BSC Young Boys, in a Champions League group stage clash.

United will of course head into proceedings brimming with confidence, having returned to action post-international break in spectacular fashion this past Saturday.

The Manchester heavyweights welcomed Newcastle to Old Trafford, eyeing a spot at the summit of the Premier League table.

And, when all was said and done, this is precisely what the Reds managed, courtesy of a thoroughly deserved 4-1 victory.

Casillas eyed

Almost as if written in the stars, it was Cristiano Ronaldo who proved the star of the show versus the Magpies, notching a brace on his 2nd debut in Manchester United’s colours following a last-gasp summer arrival from Juventus:

In turn, despite now being 36, the Portuguese icon will be expected to feature in at least some capacity on Tuesday, with many predicting a 2nd successive start for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s outfit.

And, if such a development is indeed forthcoming, with Ronaldo taking to the pitch versus Young Boys, then the veteran hitman will go on to secure for himself yet another piece of European football history.

This comes with CR7, as confirmed by Spanish outlet Diario AS, sitting just a solitary appearance shy of the all-time record in the Champions League.

The United star currently boasts 176 caps in European football’s elite club competition, with record-holder Iker Casillas looking set to be joined in the history books by his former teammate in less than 24 hours’ time.
