Cristiano Ronaldo is the man of the moment as Real Madrid stun Juventus

Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo

Italian heartbreak

Cristiano Ronaldo confirmed Real Madrid’s spot in the Champions League semi-finals despite a spirited comeback from Juventus at the Bernabeu.

We thought we had seen enough drama for one week when Roma overturned a 4-1 scoreline against Barcelona to go through.

We couldn’t have been more wrong when Juventus travelled to the Bernabeu looking to follow in their compatriot’s footsteps.

Real Madrid already had a 3-0 aggregate lead when Cristiano Ronaldo took centre stage at the Juventus Stadium.

The Portuguese star scored an incredible overhead kick and it was expected that the job was done.

Safe to say, that wasn’t the case at all.

The comeback

Mario Mandukic started the game off in brilliant fashion when he headed in at the back post to get the comeback rolling.

At that point, no one could have anticipated what was to come next.

It took until the second half before Juventus got their second goal and it was the Croatian who scored yet again.

He was able to beat Keylor Navas at the front post to ensure the comeback was well and truly on.

Then, just when everyone thought ‘surely they can’t?’, Blaise Matuidi capitalised on a Keylor Navas mistake to complete the comeback.

All eyes were then on the final 10 minutes which saw both sides doing all they could to find a winner.

Though, just when the game looked destined for extra time, penalty.

Football, bloody football

Medhi Benatia brought down Lucas Vázquez, with Gianluigi Buffon being sent off for protesting.

There was a good five-minute stoppage as Juventus brought on Wojciech Szczęsny to face the penalty.

Though, it was Cristiano Ronaldo he was set to face and that was always going to be too big of a task.

The Portuguese star put it in the top corner, well out of the reach of the Polish international.

That sent all of the footballing world into raptures.
