Malaga vs Real Madrid
Malaga, bottom of the Spanish top flight and certain for relegation, host Real Madrid at the Rosaleda on Sunday night.
Real Madrid come into the game sitting fourth in the table. Los Blancos have 64 points from 31 games.
They are a point behind Valencia with a game in hand over Los Che.
At the same time, Real Madrid are gearing up for another historic European campaign.
After squeaking past Juventus, Madrid will face Bayern Munich in the Champions League semifinals.
Real, of course, could win the Champions League for a third successive season.
No Cristiano Ronaldo, no Gareth Bale
With the Bayern Munich game soon upon them, Zinedine Zidane has omitted both Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale for the Malaga game.
The reason is clear: Real want their Portuguese and Welsh forwards 100% fit and ready for the Bayern double-header.
Indeed, Ronaldo in particular, has been noticeably rested in domestic action in recent weeks. It’s clear that Madrid have a plan to keep Cristiano as fresh as possible for the big games.
Real Madrid’s 19-man squad for the Malaga game is as follows.
Goalkeepers: Keylor Navas, Casilla and Luca.
Defenses: Carvajal, Vallejo, Ramos, Marcelo, Theo and Achraf.
Midfielders: Kroos, Casemiro, M. Llorente, Kovacic, Asensio, Isco and Ceballos.
Forwards: Benzema, Lucas Vázquez and Mayoral.
Bayern Munich 5 – Borussia Monchengladbach 1
Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich thrashed Borussia Monchengladbach 5-1 on Saturday.
Bayern actually fell behind when Josip Drmic scored after nine minutes.
But the Bavarians took a lead into the break after a Sandro Wagner double.
Thiago Alcantara, David Alaba and Robert Lewandowski found the target in the second half.
