Contradicting reports emerge over supposed Nicolas Pepe injury

Contradicting information

Nicolas Pepe has returned to Arsenal during the international break to work on his fitness, but Ivory Coast officials are claiming that he has an injury.

The Ivorian joined Arsenal in the summer and has looked impressive so far.

Despite not scoring a goal yet, Pepe has assisted one and featured in all of Arsenal’s Premier League games this season.

With a lot expected of him this season, Arsenal fans would have been worried on Friday afternoon.

Ivory Coast suggest Pepe suffered an injury

That’s because the Ivory Coast federation suggested that Nicolas Pepe had returned to Arsenal with an injury that he reported on Wednesday.

While they don’t specify the nature of the injury, they claim that ‘Nicolas Pépé, injured in club, came to report his injury on Wednesday late afternoon.’

That would have had alarm bells ringing in north London, ahead of the Watford clash next Sunday.

Though, there now looks to be some confusion over Pepe’s problem.

Opposing reports suggest Pepe will work on his fitness

Despite the Ivory Coast Federation confirming that Pepe had suffered an injury, British reports suggest that the Ivorian actually returned to Arsenal to work on his fitness.

According to Sky Sports, ‘the 24-year-old does not have an injury and will return to London Colney to prepare for the upcoming Premier League fixtures.’

They continue by explaining that Pepe did spend a short time with the international squad, before Arsenal and Ivory Coast officials came to an agreement that he shouldn’t play in the upcoming fixtures against Benin and Tunisia.

Safe to say, Arsenal fans will be hoping that it’s just a precaution.
