Chelsea vs Manchester City
In something of a rarity this season, Man City dropped two points on Saturday in the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola’s men were held to a 1-1 draw at Burnley in the opening match of gameweek 26.
The Sky Blues took the lead in the 22nd minute thanks to a stunning effort from Danilo from outside the box.
But Burnley levelled eight minutes from time through their Icelandic international Johann Berg Gudmundsson.
As for Chelsea, they are in action on Monday night at Watford.
On Sunday, the gap between Chelsea and Man City is picked up on in both the Times and Telegraph. Detailing the gulf between the sides, the Times report:
Chelsea will kick off at Watford 19 points behind Manchester City, having finished 15 points ahead of them last season.
A 34-point swing with a third of the season to go: City’s brilliance is only half the story and Chelsea’s decline has been dramatic.
So how can Chelsea close the gap with the Sky Blues?
Antonio Conte keeps on complaining
The answer, from Antonio Conte’s perspective, is provided in the Telegraph.
Can you guess what the Italian thinks? Yep, it’s spend, spend, spend:
Antonio Conte has told Chelsea they need two or three truly world-class signings to regain the Premier League title from Manchester City next season, citing the arrival of too many players as one reason behind their failure to mount a defence of their title.
When it came to Conte’s exact words, the Italian said the following:
In the future, if there is the possibility, you have to try to buy only two or three players – not eight players. Don’t forget, this summer, we brought in eight players and spent a lot less than other teams who bought only two or three.
Watford vs Chelsea
Can Watford find their first league win under Javi Gracia against Chelsea?
The Hornets are in a rough patch of form, with two draws and two defeats in their last four games.
And now only are results bad, the performances are worse. The 0-0 draw at Stoke last time out was one of the worst Premier League matches of the season.
But Chelsea have problems of their own following a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth.
Chelsea have lost two of their last three matches.
