Man City & Yaya Toure
One of the great Manchester City midfielders, these days Yaya Toure is a back up for Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.
This season Toure has only competed in three Premier League games, chalking up one assist. All three of those appearances have been off the bench.
However Yaya did start two Champions League games while he’s also featured in the Carabao Cup.
This is likely to be Toure’s final season with the Sky Blues as he’s in the final year of his City contract.
Yaya Toure & Ivory Coast
Back in 2016 Yaya Toure announced his international retirement from the Ivory Coast.
Indeed, you can still visit Yaya Toure’s official website to read his retirement statement. In it the Man City star said:
After 14 years at the highest level, I’m sure it’s the right time for me.
Football is everything to me. It has given me so many things in my career but now I don’t feel able to set new goals as a player with the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire.
Yaya Toure played for his country at three World Cups. He played 113 for the Ivory Coast.
Man City star’s dramatic u-turn
On Boxing Day 2017, however, Yaya Toure has changed his mind. Posting on Twitter after his agent Dimitry Seluk had made the announcement.
I love my country and am available for national team selection. I want to help the next generation and use my experience to make all Ivorians proud!! pic.twitter.com/2wOPZvj15f

Via his agent Dimitry Seluk on social media, it’s been confirmed that Yaya Toure “has decided to return to Ivory Coast national team. He wants to win another trophy with the Elephants of Ivory Coast.
It’s strange timing for such an announcement as the Ivory Coast failed to qualify for the World Cup.
Saying that, it’s a clear intention that Yaya Toure isn’t ready to follow his brother Kolo into full on retirement quite yet.
