Confirmed early Ballon d’Or results: Mount pips Man United star to top-20, another Chelsea star at 12

The first 20 rankings of this year’s Ballon d’Or vote have been confirmed, with a host of Premier League stars included.

2021 award

The latest edition of the coveted ‘Golden Ball’ is of course set to be handed out in just a couple of hours’ time.

After the awarding of the prize – widely regarded as the most prestigious individual accolade in world football – was cancelled last time out due to the Covid-19 pandemic, France Football’s first for almost two years will be served up in Paris on Monday night.

The usual big-hitters were all present on the initial 30-man shortlist, including the two most successful players in the accolade’s history – Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo – along with Robert Lewandowski, Neymar, Erling Haaland, and another previous winner – Luka Modric.

Mount & more learn ranks

As things stand, it is record-holder Messi who is viewed as the widespread favourite to add a 7th Ballon d’Or to his collection this evening, though Bayern Munich hitman Robert Lewandowski remains in with a strong case of his own.

The official announcement on France Football’s winner is scheduled to arrive at 7:30pm UK time, but, in the meantime, numbers 30 through 10, a short time ago, were unveiled.

When it comes to Premier League representation, Chelsea’s Champions League winners Cesar Azpilicueta and Mason Mount come in at 29 and 19 respectively, with summer addition Romelu Lukaku narrowly missing out on a spot in the top-10.

Fellow Champions League finalists Manchester City see representation at 26 (Ruben Dias), 25 (Phil Foden), 20 (Riyad Mahrez) and 15 (Raheem Sterling), whilst Bruno Fernandes of cross-town rivals United lands at 21.

Other noteworthy inclusions come in the form of Barcelona sensation Pedri (24), Italian Euro 2020 winners Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci at 13 and 14 respectively, and in-demand Borussia Dortmund standout Erling Haaland in 11th.
