Giovanni Simeone moves to Europe
On Thursday afternoon, Serie A club Genoa confirmed the signing of 21-year-old River Plate forward Giovanni Simeone.
Son of Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone, Giovanni Simeone recently represented Argentina at the Olympics in Brazil and is now hoping to follow in his father’s footsteps.
His father Diego Simeone moved to Italy aged 20 to sign for Pisa before making his name at Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Lazio.
Signed for a reported €3m fee, Giovanni Simeone took part in Genoa training today after signing a five year contract with the Italian club.
After winning the Libertadores Cup in 2015, Simeone played last season on loan at Banfield, with which he played 29 games and scored 12 goals.
The young Argentine forward will be presented to the media on Friday evening, confirmed Genoa.
