The French Football Federation have confirmed that defender Laurent Koscielny will miss the 2018 World Cup after suffering an Achilles injury against Atletico Madrid.
Arsenal were eliminated from the Europa League this evening at the semi-final stage by Atletico with Diego Costa’s first-half proving the difference over the two-legs.
Koscielny to miss World Cup
The 32-year-old went down in visible pain in the opening stage of the Europa League semi-final second-leg with players from both sides concerned.
The FFF did not confirm the details of the injury, they did, however, state that it will not be possible for the defender to travel to Russia in the summer due to the severity.
French manager Didier Deschamps confirmed:
“It’s a very big blow for the French team.
“An injury never comes at the right time.
“I am really very sad for Laurent because this World Cup was also a very important moment for him in his career and I wish him strength and a good return to the field because I’m sure he still has some great things to show.”
