Concerns over Kai Havertz as midfielder reportedly misses Chelsea training ahead of Rennes
Kai Havertz has emerged as a doubt to feature in Chelsea’s meeting with Stade Rennais on Wednesday, after being absent from the club’s latest training session.
Chelsea’s CL adventure continues
Frank Lampard’s men are set to return to European action tomorrow night.
The Blues will welcome Ligue 1 outfit Rennes to Stamford Bridge, for a Champions League group stage clash.
Chelsea will no doubt head into proceedings brimming with confidence, on the back of an impressive upturn in form of late.
Following a run of 3 consecutive draws, the Londoners have since racked up 7 goals, whilst conceding none, across their last two fixtures.
First, in Russia last week, the Premier League giants downed Krasnodar by 4 goals to nil. And this was followed by an equally impressive display at the weekend, when Sean Dyche’s Burnley were made short work of, in a 3-0 rout.
Havertz blow?
Chelsea’s win at Turf Moor, meanwhile, came with Frank Lampard having employed a new-look midfield.
N’Golo Kante, in his natural deep-lying position, was flanked by the pairing of Mason Mount and Kai Havertz.
Both players looked excellent throughout the 90 minutes on Saturday, providing the ideal link between defence and attack.
As such, fans of Chelsea were no doubt intrigued by the prospect of seeing their new-look midfield potentially take to the pitch once again versus Rennes.
As outlined above, however, if the latest word spreading across social media is to be believed, then one of the aforementioned pair could be set to miss out.
The individual in question comes in the form of Kai Havertz.
As revealed by the reliable CarefreeYouth, German international Havertz played no part in first-team training on Tuesday.
An explanation has not been provided, with further information expected tomorrow.
Nevertheless, the Blues’ big-money summer signing certainly appears to be in doubt to take to the pitch tomorrow night.
