Concern for Chelsea as key midfielder injured during first-half vs Juventus

Concern for Chelsea as key midfielder injured during first-half vs Juventus

Chelsea have been dealt a blow on the personnel front during their meeting with Juventus.

Chelsea vs Juventus

Chelsea would welcome Juventus to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening for a Champions League clash.

Despite having a superb start to the 2021/22 season, Chelsea actually headed into this game sat 2nd in their group due to Juventus having a perfect start – picking up four wins from four group games, including a 1-0 win over Chelsea in the reverse fixture.

And, with Juventus set to face a very poor Malmo side – who had not scored a single Champions League goal this season before Tuesday – in their final group tie, Chelsea were aware that to stand any chance of finishing top of their group, they needed to win the game on Tuesday and likely by a decent scoreline as well.

This looked set to happen after a bright start from Chelsea as well, which would eventually see Thomas Tuchel’s men open the scoring 25 minutes.

The ball fell to Trevoh Chalobah in the Juventus box before the defender smashed his effort past Wojciech Szczesny for his first-ever Champions League goal.

Kante taken off vs Juventus

It was not all positive for Chelsea during the first 45, however, as they lost a key player 37 minutes in.

Injury issues have become a more frequent problem for N’Golo Kante over the last few years and he has already missed a couple of games because of them this seaosn.

And, vs Juventus, the midfielder had to be withdrawn after 37 minutes due to an injury.

Kante was able to walk off the pitch, which could be a good sign. However, he also went straight down the tunnel:
