Concern for Arsenal as explanation emerges for Tierney’s last-minute absence vs West Ham

The reason behind Kieran Tierney’s late withdrawal from Arsenal’s starting XI to take on West Ham United has this evening been revealed.

London derby

Mikel Arteta’s men are currently locked in action with the Hammers in north London.

The matchup of course comes as Arsenal’s 2nd of the Premier League campaign, with the Gunners having headed into proceedings hoping to continue their fine recent spell of form.

After opening the season with a Community Shield downing of Liverpool late last month, the capital giants followed up with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Fulham last weekend.

For West Ham, on the other hand, the outlook continues to be a rather bleak one.

David Moyes’ outfit, on the back of a tumultuous couple of weeks with regards to transfer activity at the club, were comfortably dispatched of by Newcastle in their own season opener.

Tierney blow

And, as things stand at the Emirates, things are only set to get worse for the Hammers.

With 10 minutes to go before half-time, Arsenal lead by a goal to nil, courtesy of Alexandre Lacazette’s thumping header.

Whilst ongoings on the pitch continue to go swimmingly from a Gunners perspective, though, as outlined above, one major source of concern for Mikel Arteta’s men arrived shortly before kick-off this evening.

This came in the form of an injury picked up by Kieran Tierney.

Scottish international Tierney was originally named as part of the hosts’ starting XI, joining Rob Holding and Gabriel Magalhaes in Arteta’s backline.

Just minutes prior to kick-off, however, it became evident that Tierney was struggling with a fitness issue:

It was subsequently confirmed that Sead Kolasinac had replaced the former Celtic man in the Gunners’ line-up to take on West Ham, with an insight into Tierney’s problem having since been provided.

As per the reliable Charles Watts, the Arsenal stopper has picked up a hip injury, with a further update on the situation expected later tonight.
