Arsenal blow: Concern for Aaron Ramsey ahead of Everton & Napoli

Aaron Ramsey

Arsenal have tonight been dealt a worrying blow on the injury-front, after Aaron Ramsey was forced off during the club’s clash with Newcastle.

Arsenal vs Newcastle

The Gunners welcomed Rafael Benitez’s men to North London a short time ago, in their return to action following the international break.

The matchup marked a crucial one in the increasingly-tense race for a spot in the Premier League’s top-4, with Tottenham’s heartbreaking defeat at Liverpool yesterday evening having left just a solitary point separating Mauricio Pochettino’s men, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal.

As such, hosts Arsenal headed into proceedings this evening aware that a 3-point haul would see them jump to 3rd in the English top-flight table.

Ramsey & Lacazette on target

And, when all was said and done at the Emirates, leapfrog both Spurs and Man United was precisely what the Gunners managed, courtesy of a comfortable 2-0 win.

After seeing an early effort ruled out for a foul off the ball, Aaron Ramsey gathered himself before putting Arsenal in front with half an hour on the clock, with a pinpoint left-footed strike.

And, after dominating over the ensuing hour, the home side were rewarded with a second in the game’s closing stages, as substitute Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s headed through-ball was superbly lobbed home over the onrushing Martin Dubravka by Alexandre Lacazette.

Ramsey crocked

However, an otherwise positive night for Arsenal was soured somewhat by a blow in the injury front.

Aaron Ramsey was the man to have picked up the problem, with a stellar individual showing on the Welshman’s part having been brought to an unfortunate end in the 67th-minute.

The Juventus-bound midfielder was forced to take a seat on the Emirates turf with what appeared to be a muscle injury, before limping off straight down the tunnel to be replaced by Mohamed Elneny.

As such, the Gunners now face an anxious wait to discover the extent of Ramsey’s issue.
