Concern for Werner, Gundogan & more as pair of Ukraine stars test positive for Covid-19 following Germany clash
Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and a host of other top European clubs have been put on red alert on Monday evening, following confirmation that two players to have taken to the pitch versus Germany on Saturday have since returned positive tests for Covid-19.
Werner at the double
Die Mannschaft welcomed Ukraine to the Red Bull Arena 48 hours ago, for the country’s latest Nations League outing.
Germany headed into proceedings desperate for all 3 points, in their bid to leapfrog Spain to the summit of the Group D table.
And, when all was said and done on Saturday, this is precisely what Jogi Low’s men managed.
Whilst Spain were stumbling to a last-gasp 1-1 draw with Switzerland, the 2014 world champions cruised to a 3-1 win.
It was actually Ukraine who took the lead in the clash, when Roman Yaremchuk found the net inside the opening quarter of an hour.
Germany, though, were soon back on terms, courtesy of Leroy Sane.
And from here on in, it proved the Timo Werner show, as the Chelsea hitman continued his fine recent spell of form with a brace either side of the interval:
It was some response from Germany after going behind.
Chelsea fans will be pleased to see Timo Werner on the scoresheet once again! 👏
They lead 2-1 with the second half underway…

Covid concern
As outlined above, however, whilst the eventual result proved exactly what Germany were after on Saturday, the country’s latest win may yet come at a cost.
On Monday evening, confirmation has arrived that two of Ukraine’s stars to have lined out in the Leipzig clash have since tested positive for Covid-19:
The Ukrainian federation reveals that two players who played vs Germany have tested positive for COVID-19 after all were allegedly negative the day of the match. As a club chairman, if one of my players got infected, I would sue the hell out of these federations and the UEFA.

The news will, for obvious reasons, come as a concern for not only the German and Ukrainian national sides, but also the clubs for whom the players on display over the weekend line out for.
Bayern Munich saw 5 members of the club’s first-team squad feature versus Ukraine, with Antonio Rudiger having joined match-winner Timo Werner in representing Chelsea for Die Mannschaft.
Other Premier League stars to have lined out in the clash include Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan and Leeds United’s Robin Koch.
