Paraguayan club’s beautiful gesture
Club Libertad have put their whole first team squad at Chapecoense’s disposal following the horrific plane crash in Colombia which killed 76 of the 81 on board.
Travelling to the club’s biggest game in their history, Chapecoense were due to play in the Copa Sudamericana final against Atletico Nacional.
Paraguayan club ‘Club Libertad’ were defeated by Chapecoense in a penalty shoot-out in the quarter-finals of the competition.
They released a statement which reads as follows:
“The directives of Club Libertad share with profound pain their condolences, for the tragedy involving our brother club ASOCIACION CHAPECOENSE DE FUTBOL, and put their first-team players at Chapecoense’s disposal for any sporting event, in homage to the fallen PLAYERS, with such a brilliant career at both national and international level.”
