Pep Guardiola issues challenge for Man City ahead of Liverpool game

City vs Liverpool

Pep Guardiola has told his Manchester City players it will be all over if they fail to beat Liverpool.

The club sit seven points behind Jurgen Klopp’s high flying side.

Now, ahead of their meeting on 3rd January, Pep has warned his players it’s winner takes all.

He also praised them for their form this season, with the blip only coming in the last couple of games.

Sky Sports report he said: “With the position of Liverpool, if we drop points then it is over, it is finished; it would be almost impossible.

“Of course they are going to drop points but not too many. If you want to be there as far as possible until the end we have to remember what happened last season, and this as well, apart from the last few days.

Pep’s challenges

Not only does Guardiola have to guide his side in the Premier League this season, he also has to progress in Europe.

Liverpool were the ones who knocked City out of Europe last season.

This term, they will have to do much better.

The fans may not be in love with the Champions League, but Guardiola and the players know it will be key.

If they want to be seen as a world class force, they need to improve in Europe.

Failing to defend their title in England isn’t ideal, but if they follow that up with a Champions League win, it will be seen as a success.
