How close was Christian Eriksen to joining Real Madrid or Man United last summer?
There’s an eye-catching quote from Christian Eriksen in the Times on Tuesday regarding this past summer’s transfer speculation.
After non-stop rumours linking the Dane to the likes of Real Madrid and Man United, Eriksen ended up remaining at Spurs.
Eriksen is in the final year of his contract at Tottenham.
Accordingly, Eriksen can leave Spurs as a free agent at the end of the season.
But how close was Eriksen to leaving the north London club last summer? The Times report:
Eriksen said he wanted to leave at the start of the summer but initial interest from Real Madrid, Manchester United and Juventus came to nothing.
“If I took all the rumours [seriously], I would float on a cloud,” he said.

Tottenham hope to sell five players in January
Returning to the Times on Tuesday, it’s also reported that the Lilywhites hope to sell five players in the January window:
Eric Dier is among several players who will be made available with the aim of freshening up a squad that has lost more matches than they have won since the start of February.
(Dier) will be joined on the list by Christian Eriksen, Serge Aurier, Victor Wanyama and Danny Rose, all of whom Tottenham expected to have sold in the summer.
But will Spurs actually manage to sell these players?
If they couldn’t offload these guys in the summer, why should it be any different in Janaury?
