Christian Eriksen explains why Real Madrid’s interest is irrelevant amid Tottenham contract talks

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen claims positive talks have taken place with the club over a new contract.

His latest comments suggest that Real Madrid’s reported interest has been overstated as he works towards the same goal as Spurs in negotiations over a new deal.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a £100 million move to the Spanish capital with contract talks being drawn out.

Eriksen: “There are good discussions ongoing so there is nothing there.”

The Danish international has dismissed Madrid’s interest as speculation amid contract talks with Spurs.

He claims his focus remains on being successful with the North London club and not on rumours out of his control.

Eriksen said:

“It’s not something I’m thinking of.

“I’m focused on playing football, there are many games to think about and which must be won.

“It is not the first time that there have been rumours.

“When the newspapers write something, it is not something we are in control of.

“If there is nothing concrete, then I just comment on rumors.”

The 26-year-old also suggests that a new contract is possible with positive talks taking place.

Meanwhile,  “there is nothing there” is bound to be related to news linking him to Madrid.

Eriksen added:

“I think people know what I want, and I know what they (Tottenham) would like.

“There are good discussions ongoing so there is nothing there.”

Carabao Cup review: Tottenham 1-0 Chelsea

Following a controversial VAR assisted goal, Tottenham take a slender 1-0 lead to Stamford Bridge in two weeks time.

Harry Kane’s spot-kick proved to be the difference between the two teams at Wembley in the first-leg.

The technology deemed the 25-year-old not be offside in the build-up to him fouled by Kepa Arrizabalaga inside the penalty area.
