Darron Gibson & Sunderland
It’s been a couple of days since video footage leaked onto social media of Sunderland midfielder Darron Gibson running his mouth off in a pub.
Sunderland are a club that have been in crisis for some time now, and Gibson revealed he’s well aware of the shortcomings at the Stadium of Light.
Looking like he’d had one too many beers, the former Man United player was filmed saying “we’re f—ing s—” and even suggested “there are too many people at the club who don’t give a f—”.
Gibson singled out Lamine Kone, Jeremain Lens and Wahbi Khazri as players who couldn’t give a toss about the Black Cats, who are now in the Championship after being relegated.
Chris Sutton speaks his mind
The whole incident was chewed over on BBC 5 Live radio on Monday night, and pundit Chris Sutton didn’t hold back in his analysis of the situation. He said:
(Gibson’s) a renegade in a dressing room full of pirates. Sunderland is a cesspit at the moment, and they just don’t need it. Poor Simon Grayson, he’s got a hard enough job at it is.
Years ago players might have got away with it – going for a drink after you got thrashed. But you cannot do it, absolutely brainless behaviour. They’ll throw the book at him.

Sunderland released a statement on Monday concerning the whole affair, but the Black Cats botched their press release as they managed to spell Darron Gibson incorrectly.
Sunderland statement on Darron Gibson. Or is it Darren Gibson…

In the meantime, the club have opened up an investigation into the matter, but it’s unlikely Gibson will be kicked out the club.
