Chris Smalling and his family subjected to robbery at gun point at his home in Rome

Shocking situation

Former Manchester United and England defender Chris Smalling has been the victim of a shocking armed robbery at his home in Rome.

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport reports that three armed intruders entered the home whilst Smalling was there with his wife Sam and two-year-old son Leo.

He was forced to open his safe and the robbers took Rolex watches, jewellery and other personal items. The Police are now investigating and the club are supporting the player and his family.

Smalling, who joined the club permanently after a year on loan, was not involved in Roma’s Europa League tie with Ajax as he is recovering from a knee injury.

This is just the latest in a number of such attacks in Italy as Juventus Weston Mckennie was recently burgled as has Frank Ribery been in the past.
