Chile vs Peru Copa América match preview

Will the holders keep alive their hopes of a third Copa América title in a row?

Chile had never been crowned South American champions in 37 attempts as of four years ago.

Back then, they beat Argentina on penalties on home soil in 2015; an historic occasion in Santiago.

Then, 12 months later, they beat Argentina on penalties again this time in the Copa América Centenario Final in New Jersey.

Can La Roja become only the second team ever to win three titles in a row?

They needed a penalty shoutout to defeat Colombia in the quarter-finals but will be confident of getting through here.

As for Peru, their two South American titles came back in 1939 and 1975 and they have not reached the final since then.

Nevertheless, La Blanquirroja have upset the odds to get here.

They held Uruguay to a 0-0 draw in Salvador before defeating them 5-4 on penalties.

That was a major upset.

Can they cause a shock again?

Chile are the favourites but write Peru off at your peril.
