Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi thanks Marcos Alonso for sparing his blushes vs Tottenham

Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi has this evening taken to social media to thank teammate Marcos Alonso for his match-winning strike versus Tottenham Hotspur earlier today.

Alonso put the Blues 1-0 up with a stunning free-kick after 24 minutes at Wembley, leaving Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris with absolutely no chance.

A frenetic hour followed, with the home side having the better of the chances.

However, just minutes after being introduced as a late substitute for the Blues, striker Michy Batshuayi found himself in the thick of the action, for all the wrong reasons.

A wicked set-piece delivery from Christian Eriksen left Batshuayi in an awkward position inside his own box, with the Frenchman’s natural instinct to put his head on the ball before it reached the glut of incoming players behind him.

However, his decision proved to be a poor one, as the former Marseille man proceeded to nod the ball past Thibaut Courtois to bring Spurs level.

Thankfully for Batshuayi, his mistake did not prove crucial, with Marcos Alonso having smashed a low effort past Hugo Lloris in the 88th minute to send Antonio Conte’s side home with all 3 points.

Batshuayi’s blushes were very much spared, and the striker made his appreciation known on social media:
