De Gea’s poor 2018/19
David de Gea’s 2018/19 season will be one he is likely keen to forget.
Manchester United would let in 54 goals in 38 league outings this past season, their most ever in a single Premier League year.

While all those goals can obviously not be blamed on de Gea, as he requires assistance from his defence, the Spaniard did prove uncharacteristically error-prone.
De Gea had a particularly mistake-filled April, that saw him make three major errors that led to goals.

Kepa on replacing de Gea
Fellow Spaniard Kepa, on the other hand, let in just 39 goals throughout the 2018/19 Premier League campaign, 15 less than de Gea.
This has led to the Chelsea star replacing de Gea as Spain’s number one.
Spain have just played two Euro 2020 qualifiers, versus the Faroe Islands and Sweden. Kepa would start between the sticks on both occasions.
And Kepa has since spoken out about replacing de Gea for Spain:
“I’m going to continue working as I have until now, doing my best at my club to keep the confidence of the coach.
“Whoever plays will do very well.
“Of course I understand that David is sad, we all train to play and then it is the decision of the coach, and it is up to you to respond well.
“We are always surrounded by such controversies, but we must take it naturally. I’m happy to play, to help the team and to finish the season in the best way possible.
“The season has been very long, but before we left we had these two very important commitments. We are happy to finish in the best way possible.” As quoted by the Evening Standard.
