Chelsea vs Tottenham betting tips: Carabao Cup semi-final second leg match preview & predictions

Chelsea vs Tottenham prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham

First leg score: Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Chelsea

A huge night at Stamford Bridge.

Two great London rivals will do battle for the second time in little over a fortnight as both target a place in next month’s Carabao Cup final.

Harry Kane’s penalty, assisted by VAR, was enough for Spurs in the first leg.

Who’ll be celebrating this time?

Eden Hazard

Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur: Who will win?

Chelsea are 8/13 to emerge victorious in a game they simply must win.

Tottenham to repeat their first leg victory is 9/2.

A draw would do very nicely for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and that’s priced at 29/10.

Double chance Tottenham or draw is 5/4.

Under 2.5 goals is 10/11.

Both teams to score no is 5/6.

Chelsea to win and both teams to score no is 13/8.

Eden Hazard is set to start up front once again, begrudgingly. The Belgian is 10/3 to score first and 6/5 to get his eleventh goal of the season.

If fit, Lucas Moura could be Tottenham’s biggest attacking threat. He’s 10/1 to score first and 16/5 to score anytime.

Both Willian and Hazard to score is 8/1.

Both Eriksen and Lucas to score is 25/1.

Chelsea to qualify is 10/11; Spurs to qualify is 4/5.

It really is that tough to call.

Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur: Match preview

Chelsea come into this game off the back of a potentially really damaging defeat.

Two first half goals saw the Blues lose 2-0 at Arsenal on Saturday.

That now means Chelsea, in fourth, are just three points above both Arsenal and Manchester United in the race for the last Champions League place.

But that result wasn’t a one off for Chelsea.

Maurizio Sarri’s side have now lost 4 of their last 10 league games, scoring a mere 13 goals in that time.

After the game at the weekend, Sarri claimed his players were difficult to motivate and that they did not have the right mentality.

How will the affect the Chelsea squad ahead of such a massive game?

Callum Hudson-Odoi

As for Tottenham, they come into this match in a much better mood.

All of the injury concerns were forgotten when Harry Winks headed home a 93rd minute winner at Craven Cottage on Sunday to seal a 2-1 win over Fulham.

That’s now 10 victories in their last 13 matches in all competitions.

That result also means they remain third in the table, 5 points behind Manchester City, 4 points above Chelsea and, crucially, 7 ahead of Arsenal in fifth.

Despite all the top 4 finishes though, it’s a piece of silverware that Tottenham fans crave.

Mauricio Pochettino lead them to the League Cup final in 2015 where they were beaten 2-0 by Chelsea.

Can they get some revenge and set up a date with Manchester City and another shot at glory?

Maurizio Sarri’s team selection has been criticised in recent weeks by many Chelsea fans.

Amazingly, 7 players have started at least 22 of Chelsea’s 23 Premier League matches.

With this being a must win game, all the regulars are expected to start this one too.

That includes goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Spaniard may well have been at fault for Arsenal’s first goal on Saturday but his 15 clean sheets in 30 appearances is a very impressive return.

The back 4 too never changes.

Andreas Christensen did get a rare start in the first leg but it’s expected to be the usual quartet of Azpilicueta, Luiz, Rüdiger and Alonso.

In midfield, N’Golo Kanté and Jorginho have both started every Premier League game so far.

The latter was heavily criticised on Saturday but, in a game Chelsea are expected to dominate, his ability on the ball could be key.

Mateo Kovačić usually makes up the midfield but there’s a chance that the more attack minded Ross Barkley could get the nod.

Chelsea continue to have problems in their front three too.

Gonzalo Higuaín did arrive in London on Wednesday to finalist his loan move from Juventus.

However, he will not feature in this game as he missed the deadline.

Will he solve their attacking problems love term?

But, for now, Eden Hazard is likely to start through the middle despite the fact it’s undeniable that playing there does not get the best out of him.

Bayern Munich target Callum Hudson-Odoi started at Wembley in the first game but Sarri is likely to select the more experienced Willian and Pedro.

Can this team get the goals needed to get through to the final?

Dele Alli

As is well documented, Spurs are in the midst of an injury crisis.

Paulo Gazzaniga, who’s started in every round so far including the first leg, will keep his place in goal.

There are no significant absentees at the back.

Just like at Fulham on Sunday, it’s expected to be a back three of Dávinson Sánchez, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

As they already have the lead from the first leg, the fact that they don’t have injuries in defensive areas could be key.

It will be interesting to see who plays at wing-back.

Pochettino does like to rotate his full-backs so Ben Davies is likely to displace Danny Rose.

However, with no Serge Aurier, Kieran Trippier will likely retain his place ahead of Kyle Walker-Peters.

They are short of options in midfield.

Moussa Sissoko and Victor Wanyama were declared fit on Wednesday but are unlikely to be risked from the start. And Mousa Dembélé has left for Chinese club Guǎngzhōu R&F.

Eric Dier is likely to come back in to sit alongside Sunday’s hero Harry Winks.

More bad news for Tottenham as Dele Alli pulled his hamstring at the Cottage so will not feature.

But the good news is Lucas Moura is likely to be back; his last appearance was at Tranmere.

Up front, Harry Kane is out and Son Heung-min is away at the Asia Cup so Fernando Llorente will be tasked with holding the ball up and relieving pressure.

Érik Lamela and the forgotten man Georges-Kévin N’Koudou could make an impact off the bench.

Will it be they who is taking on Manchester City on February 24 at Wembley?
