Chelsea vs Newcastle betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Chelsea vs Newcastle prediction: Chelsea 1-0 Newcastle

Chelsea’s attack has looked underwhelming in recent weeks, with an over-reliance placed on Eden Hazard. The Blues’ defence, however, continues to perform, with three shutouts in their last four matches.

Newcastle are without a win in their last five in all competitions. The Magpies will be the fresher of the two sides following Chelsea’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg on Tuesday.

Chelsea vs Newcastle: Who will win?

Chelsea are 2/9 favourites while Newcastle are 12/1. The draw is priced at 19/4.

Chelsea have failed to score in three of their last five matches at Stamford Bridge, while none of the last five have featured more than two goals. Bet under 2.5 goals at 6/5.

Eden Hazard loves a goal against Newcastle, having already scored six goals against them in five previous appearances. Hazard is 11/4 to open the scoring and 8/11 to score anytime.

Chelsea vs Newcastle Premier League match preview

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is set to face his old club when his side visits Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Chelsea suffered a 1-0 defeat to Spurs in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final at Wembley on Tuesday. Harry Kane’s controversial penalty separates the sides going into the second leg.

Chelsea began the new year with a 0-0 draw at home to Southampton before beating Championship side Nottingham Forest 2-0 in the FA Cup 3rd round. Alvaro Morata bagged a brace with both goals being set up by Callum Hudson Odoi.

Chelsea start the weekend fourth in the table, three points above Arsenal.

Newcastle are 15th in the able, two points above the relegation zone, following their 2-0 home defeat to Manchester United a fortnight ago.

On Saturday, a rotated Newcastle side was held to a 1-1 draw by Blackburn Rovers in their FA Cup.

Poor form

Despite their own poor form, Newcastle will know they can take something away from Saturday’s game. Chelsea have failed to win six of their last eight Premier League matches at Stamford Bridge, including a 1-0 defeat to Leicester.

Although Newcastle are without a win in their last five across all competitions, they have lost just one of their last six away games in the Premier League – a 4-0 defeat at Anfield.

Chelsea and Newcastle have met 47 times in the Premier League. The Blues have won 23 times to Newcastle’s 12.

Chelsea won 2-1 in the reverse fixture at St James’ Park in match week three. Eden Hazard opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Joselu equalised for the home side seven minutes later.

Newcastle looked to be course for a point but DeAndre Yedlin scored past his own goal three minutes from time.

Chelsea team news vs Newcastle

Cesc Fabregas appears to have played his last ever match for the club, meaning Matteo Kovacic should play alongside Jorginho and N’Golo Kante in a three-man midfield.

With Alvaro Morata’s future up in the air, Olivier Giroud will likely start up front – unless Sarri opts to play Eden Hazard in the false-nine position.

Willian should get the nod ahead of Pedro Rodriguez on the right flank.

18-year-old Hudson-Odoi could be on the bench, despite possibly moving to Bayern Munich later this month.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is ruled out with a back injury which forced him off in the FA Cup.

Jonjo Shelvey is expected to miss out with a thigh problem. The midfielder travelled to Barcelona this week to see a specialist. Paul Dummett also made the trip to Barcelona to treat a hamstring problem.

Mo Diame has a small hip and groin problem and faces a late fitness test.

Christian Atsu could start against his former side while Kenedy is ineligible to face his parent club.
