Chelsea vs Manchester United betting tips: FA Cup fifth round preview & predictions

Chelsea vs Man United prediction: Chelsea 1-2 Man United

The tie of the round comes from Stamford Bridge.

It’s a repeat of last year’s final but it’s been all change since then.

On that day, Antonio Conte’s side beat José Mourinho’s team 1-0.

Will Maurizio Sarri or Ole Gunnar Solskjær come out on top this time?

Ross Barkley

Chelsea vs Manchester United: Who will win?

Chelsea are favourites at evens to win this match in 90 minutes.

Manchester United are the underdogs at 13/5.

Replays from the fifth round stage onwards have been scrapped.

So a draw, priced also at 13/5, would force extra time.

Chelsea are 1/2 to qualify; Man United are 6/4.

Over 2.5 goals is 4/5 and both teams to score is 8/13.

Eden Hazard has 5 career goals against Manchester United. The Belgian is 4/1 to score first and 6/4 to add to that tally.

Gonzalo Higuaín scored a hat-trick in the last round. He’s also 4/1 to score first and 7/5 to net anytime.

Marcus Rashford has been in fine form under Solskjær. He’s 13/2 to score first and 21/10 to get his eleventh of the season.

Both Higuaín and Hazard to score is 11/2.

Both Hazard and Rashford to score is 7/1.

Chelsea vs Manchester United: Match preview

This is a huge game for Chelsea.

Last weekend, they suffered their biggest top division defeat since 1991, going down 6-0 at Manchester City.

That result came just 11 days after a 4-0 hammering at Bournemouth.

Sarri’s under pressure as his team slips down to sixth in the table.

The Blues did, somewhat, get back on track on Thursday winning 2-1 in Sweden against Malmö in their UEFA Europa League round of 32 first leg.

That leaves them in pole position ahead of the second leg which comes just 72 hours after this match.

Which is just as well, because their subsequent match is the Carabao Cup Final and a reunion with Manchester City.

They cannot afford another moral shattering defeat so will Sarri-ball prevail?

Can Man United lift themselves after PSG?

As for Manchester United, has the Solskjær bubble finally burst?

Last Tuesday night, the Red Devils were beaten 2-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in their UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg.

That leaves them with a mountain to climb in the second leg at Parc Des Princes.

The 11-match unbeaten streak is also over.

Nevertheless, in the league, they’re now one point above both Chelsea and Arsenal and well on track to make the top 4.

However, as he may only have just over a dozen games left, Solskjær would love to add some silverware.

They beat Arsenal in the last round so can they topple the holders and make the quarter-finals?

Sarri’s team very rarely changes.

Only 5 changes from the side that kicked off in Sweden are anticipated.

In goal, Kepa Arrizabalaga ha started 35 of Chelsea’s 41 games this season but is expected to make his FA Cup debut here with Willy Caballero dropping out.

At the back, Andreas Christensen and Emerson both got rare starts in Malmö.

However, despite poor recent performances, Antonio Rüdiger and Marcos Alonso will come back in.

Both of Thursday’s goalscorer will also drop out.

One of which is Ross Barkley with N’Golo Kanté coming back in and Mateo Kovačić keeping his place.

Further forward, Callum Hudson-Odoi continues to dominate the headlines due to his lack of involvement.

Chelsea rejected a £35 million move from Bayern Munich in January despite the teenager handing in a transfer request.

However, he’s played just 291 minutes in the last 11 games including 6 minutes on Thursday, starting just 3 of those games.

That’s an average of 26 minutes per match.

It seems unlikely he’ll start here either.

Olivier Giroud may have scored his fifth Europa League goal of the season last time out but it’ll be Gonzalo Higuaín who leads the line.

Will the holders march on?

Manchester United team news vs Chelsea

As for Manchester United, this game continues a run of very tough matches for them.

They face Liverpool, PSG, Arsenal and Manchester City in their 6 games after this one.

Nevertheless, only around 3 changes are expected.

One of which is in goal where Sergio Romero will come in.

The Argentine has kept 6 clean sheets in 8 FA Cup appearances.

It may well be the same back 4 as against PSG.

Lindelöf and Bailly appear to be the first choice centre-back pairing.

There could be as many as three former Chelsea players in this side.

Although, Nemanja Matić is the only one of those guaranteed to start.

The other two might get their chances due to absentees further forward.

One of the key reasons why Manchester United lost on Tuesday was the injuries suffered by key players.

It was confirmed on Friday that both Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial will be out for around 3 weeks.

A huge blow.

Despite a terrible performance against PSG, Alexis Sánchez is expected to come in.

That’ll mean either one of Juan Mata or Romelu Lukaku will get a Stamford Bridge return.

It’s likely to be the latter with Marcus Rashford pushed out wide.

Can this team bounce back from a defeat?

Something they haven’t had to do for a little while.
