Chelsea vs Eintracht Frankfurt betting tips: Europa League preview & predictions

Chelsea vs Frankfurt prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Frankfurt

First leg score: Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1 Chelsea

This tie is perfectly poised after the first leg at Waldstadion.

Luka Jović put the home side in front after 23 minutes before Pedro equalised right on the stroke of half time.

It finished 1-1 and, in truth, Chelsea were unfortunate to only leave Germany with a draw.

Still, Maurizio Sarri’s side are in the box seat to make the final so can they finish the job at Stamford Bridge?

Chelsea vs Eintracht Frankfurt: Who will win?

Chelsea have won all 6 of their Europa League home games this season and are 4/11 to make that 7.

Frankfurt may well need to win this one and are 7/1 to do that.

A repeat of last week’s draw is 19/5.

A 0-0 draw, which would send Chelsea through, is 16/1.

A 2-2 draw, which would do for Frankfurt, is 18/1.

Both teams to score is 5/6.

Over 2.5 goals is 4/7.

Chelsea to win and over 2.5 goals is 5/6.

The Blues to qualify overall is 1/6; Die Adler to be soaring to Baku is 7/2.

Olivier Giroud is the UEFA Europa League’s top scorer with 10 and he’s scored against the 6 previous different opponents Chelsea have faced. He’s 4/1 to score first.

Eden Hazard is their top scorer this season with 19. He’s 3/1 to score first and 1/1 to get his first in this competition.

No player has scored the opening goal in the UEFA Europa League this season as often as Luka Jović (5 times) including last week. Jović is 15/2 to once again score first and 5/2 to net anytime.

Ante Rebić will be alongside him up front. He’s 11/1 to score first and 7/2 to score anytime.

Both Giroud and Hazard to score is 7/2.

Both Pedro and Hazard to score is 4/1.

Both Jović and Rebić to score is 18/1.

Both Jorginho and David Luiz to score is 110/1.

Both Danny da Costa and Sebastian Rode to score is 190/1.

Chelsea vs Eintracht Frankfurt: Match preview

Chelsea are in control of this tie.

After last week’s draw, they are now unbeaten in their last 16 Europa League games, a new record in the competition since it was rebranded in 2009/10.

Can the Blues make their sixth European Final?

The pressure is slightly off after the weekend.

On Sunday, second half goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek, David Luiz and Gonzalo Higuaín saw them beat Watford 3-0.

That win guarantees a top 4 finish and ensures Chelsea will be playing in the UEFA Champions League next season.

That should allow them to play this one with a bit more freedom.

Will that help them book their place in Baku?

Can Frankfurt turn this tie around?

Or will the 1980 UEFA Cup winners be heading to Azerbaijan?

It has already been a memorable season for Eintracht Frankfurt.

They ended last season by beating Bayern Munich 3-1 in the DFB-Pokal Final; their first German Cup since 1988.

However, this season couldn’t have started any worse.

They were hammered 5-0 by Bayern in the DFL-Supercup before losing to fourth division SSV Ulm in the defence of their Cup.

Three defeats from their first five Bundesliga games meant that new Head Coach Adi Hütter was immediately under pressure.

However, since then, his side have climbed up the table and they are currently 4th with 2 games remaining.

Although, Sunday’s game was one to forget.

They were hammered 6-1 by Bayer Leverkusen with all 7 goals coming in the first 36 minutes.

That was the first time any side has conceded 6 first half goals in a Bundesliga match since 1978.

Leverkusen are now only behind Frankfurt on goal difference, with Borussia Mönchengladbach and Wolfsburg a further 2 points back.

There is another way they could get into the Champions League for the first time since 1960.

The UEFA Europa League.

It is this competition in which they have thrived this season.

They won all 6 group matches in a group containing last season’s finalists Olympique Marseille, Lazio and Apollon Limassol.

Then, in the knockout stages, they’ve had to see off three Champions League drop-outs.

It was Shakhtar Donetsk in the round of 32, Internazionale in the last 16 and, most dramatically of all, Benfica in the quarter-finals.

Despite a 4-2 defeat in the Estádio da Luz in the first leg, they were able to comeback with a 2-0 win in Germany to see them go through on away goals.

After last week, they’ve now scored 29 goals in the UEFA Europa League this season, a new record for a German club.

They’ve already won at Stade Vélodrome, Stadio Olimpico and San Siro this season so can they get a win that would top the lot at Stamford Bridge?

Chelsea team news vs Eintracht Frankfurt

Eden Hazard

Sarri has a few injury concerns coming into this one but will still be able to field a strong side.

Kepa Arrizabalaga will make his 52nd appearance of the season in goal.

If he adds to his 22 clean sheets, Chelsea are through.

Ahead of him, Emerson will come back in for Marcos Alonso at left-back.

Antonio Rüdiger will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury so David Luiz will continue to partner Europa League ever present Andreas Christensen at the back.

In midfield, N’Golo Kanté went off after just 8 minutes on Sunday so is unlikely to be fit.

In his absence, it’s likely to be Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mateo Kovačić ahead of Jorginho.

Callum Hudson-Odoi will not feature, he suffered a serious Achilles injury against Burnley a couple of weeks ago.

Eden Hazard was controversially left on the bench in the first leg.

The Belgian has now assisted 15 league goals this season, more than any other player in the big five European leagues in 2018-19.

Surely he’ll be back in the side for this one.

On the other wing, Pedro’s decent form should see him start ahead of Willian.

The Spaniard’s seven goal involvements in the UEFA Europa League this season (4 goals, 3 assists) have all come in his last six starts in the competition, including that all important away goal last midweek.

Up front, despite his goal on Sunday, Gonzalo Higuaín will be on the bench.

That’s because Oliver Giroud has started the last 11 Europa League games, scoring 10 goals and providing 3 assists.

Will this side finish the job?

Luka Jovic

As for Frankfurt, despite a shambolic performance at the weekend, Adi Hütter will not make wholesale changes.

On loan PSG goalkeeper Kevin Trapp will be between the sticks, as always.

It’ll be a back 3 for the 30th match in a row.

They’re expected to make just 1 change from the first leg.

It’ll be the same defence of Martin Hinteregger, Simon Falette and captain David Abraham.

The midfield will feature the experienced Makoto Hasebe; he’s won 114 caps for the Japan national team.

Sebastien Rode, who scored the winner in the last round, will start alongside him.

Gelson Fernandes will drop out from the first leg and join former Swansea midfielder Jonathan de Guzmán on the bench.

Attacking midfielder Mijat Gaćinović was rested at the weekend but will come back in for this one.

Wing-back Filip Kostić will be a threat; he has 10 goals and 13 assists to his name this season.

Up front, they’re boosted by the return of some key personnel.

Sébastien Haller has missed the last 8 games due to an abdominal strain but could be on the bench.

Also, World Cup star Ante Rebić, who has scored 1o goals this season, is back from the suspension which saw him sidelined for the first leg.

He’ll partner top scorer Luka Jović.

He’s scored 26 goals this season including 9 in the Europa League.

Gonçalo Paciência will be an option if they’re chasing a goal.

All 5 of Paciência’s goals for Frankfurt have been headers, something for Chelsea to be wary of.

This attacking side have scored 89 goals this season but let in 61.

Will they get the goals they need to make the final in Baku?
