Kovacic’s season at Chelsea
Mateo Kovacic joined Chelsea in August of 2018 from Spanish giants Real Madrid on a season-long loan.
Kovacic would play 51 games across all competitions during his stint in London.
However, in those 51 games, the Croatian managed zero goals and just two assists.
While Kovacic’s main job is not to score goals or provide assists, you would have thought that in 51 games, he could have maybe provided a bit more creativity.

How Sarri affects Kovacic deal
It appears that some people at Chelsea are also of the opinion that Kovacic didn’t have that great a 2018/19.
According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea are having second thoughts about making Kovacic’s loan deal a permanent one.
Chelsea may be unable to sign players this summer due to their transfer ban. But Kovacic would still be able to complete a permanent switch to Stamford Bridge if Chelsea make a move by the end of this month, as per the ES.
The reason that Chelsea may not sign Kovacic, though, is Maurizio Sarri.
Sarri has been heavily linked with the Juventus job in recent weeks, with rumours circulating that he could be appointed at some point this week.
The ES claim that Sarri was keen for Kovacic to continue at Chelsea, but if he departs for Juve, then the Blues could decide against signing the Real Madrid man.
