Chelsea U23 vs Liverpool U23

Chelsea take on Liverpool in U23 action on Monday night.

Liverpool started the Premier League 2 season with a 4-0 defeat to Tottenham.

As for Chelsea, the Blues’ U23 side beat Derby County 1-0 in round one of the new season.

Antonio Rudiger is back

In a big injury boost, Chelsea have confirmed that Antonio Rudiger will feature against Liverpool tonight.

Rudiger, the German centre-half, has been sidelined for months through injury.

The Chelsea defender has been recovering from a knee operation earlier in the year.

Speaking to Chelsea’s website, Rudiger said the following before his comeback:

I know I need to be patient. There is no need to rush anything because as we all know we have a long season to go.

I am happy because I am going to have some minutes with the Under-23s against Liverpool. I’m very pleased with that.

Chelsea are yet to record a clean sheet in three competitive matches under Frank Lampard.

After losing 4-0 at Man United, Chelsea were beaten by Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup.

While, on Sunday, Chelsea were held to a 1-1 home draw against Leicester City.
