Chelsea are set to finally terminate the contract of defender Baba Rahman following several unsuccessful loan spells away from the club, it has been reported.

The Blues have undergone a major clearout already this summer, and are far from done. So far, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus Cheek, Edouard Mendy, N’Golo Kante and Kalidou Koulibaly have all already departed west London for pastures new, netting the club a cool £180m in the process.

Plenty more are likely to follow too, with Hakim Ziyech, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Marc Cucurella, Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson Odoi all potentially free to leave.

There are question marks too over returning loanees Levi Colwill (Who Chelsea are keen to keep) and Ethan Ampadu (whose future is less clear).

One man whose time at Stamford Bridge is now over though is defender Baba Rahman. Signed in 2015 for a fee of around £15m, Rahman has appeared just 23 times for the Blues and has been sent out on loan a mammoth seven times, most recently to Reading, but he could not prevent the Royals from being relegated from the Championship.

Despite having one year left on his deal in west London, the club have agreed to terminate his contract a year early, and he now looks set to rejoin Greek side PAOK, where he spent one of his loan spells.

He is not the only defender set to depart Stamford Bridge on a free, with Cesar Azpilicueta also set to join Atletico Madrid this summer after the Blues agreed to cut his current deal short out of respect for his years of service to the club.
