Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has today revealed his opinion that, under the right circumstances, the Blues can still catch Manchester City to retain their Premier League crown.
Pep Guardiola’s City are in irresistible form at this moment in time, having earned victories in all but one of their fixtures this season (a 1-1 draw with Everton on the 2nd day of the Premier League).
The Citizens are currently on a 15-game winning streak across all competitions, earning impressive victories over the likes of Chelsea and Napoli (twice) along the way.
The Sky Blues hold a massive 8-point lead over 2nd placed Manchester United in the Premier League table, with many having suggested that the race for supremacy in the English top-flight is already over for this season.
‘The season is long’
One man who is not of this opinion, though, is Chelsea shotstopper Thibaut Courtois.
Speaking in an interview with the club’s official website today, the Belgian explained that while City look ‘unstoppable’ at the moment, that his side certainly haven’t given up hope of catching their free-flowing rivals.
‘We have to hope now they drop points. At the moment they are a bit unstoppable, they are playing very well and scoring goals.’
‘Last year we were eight points behind City at one stage and then we went on a winning run. I hope we can do the same.’
‘But the season is very long, they could have injuries, play a bit worse and lose some games. We have to be there and keep winning our games.’
Chelsea return to action following the international break with a Premier League clash at West Brom on November 18th.
