Chelsea reportedly open to idea of next manager being German speaker
Chelsea downed by Leicester
Chelsea made the trip to the King Power on Tuesday evening, for a crunch clash with Leicester City.
The Blues headed into the tie on the back of wins over Morecambe and Fulham.
Despite their back-to-back victories, however, Frank Lampard’s men had actually looked pretty dire of late, and were seriously struggling for form before seeing off the Cottagers.
So, a meeting with a Leicester side in superb form was always likely to prove whether Chelsea had really bounced back, amid speculation over Frank Lampard’s future.
What subsequently unfolded over the 90 minutes on Tuesday, however, has since only cast further doubt over the Chelsea boss’ future.
The Londoners looked completely devoid of confidence, and were simply outclassed by Brendan Rodgers’ side all over the pitch.
Wilfred Ndidi fired the Foxes into the lead after six minutes. James Maddison then added a second before the break, with Leicester having gone on to dominate the remainder of the clash, en route to a 2-0 win.
Chelsea open to bringing in German-speaking boss
Their latest win saw Leicester usurp Manchester United at the Premier League summit.
As for Chelsea, they now sit 8th, and well off the pace of the top-four.
In turn, unsurprisingly, the 24 hours since his side’s latest defeat have seen talk of potential successors to Lampard at Stamford Bridge ramp up.
The likes of Ralph Hasenhuttl and Thomas Tuchel have been linked with the Chelsea post in recent weeks.
And now, on Wednesday, The Athletic have reported that the Pensioners would be open to their next boss being a German speaker.
This comes with, amongst other reasons, the club desperate to bring the best out of players such as Timo Werner and Kai Havertz:
🔹 Chelsea hierarchy open to idea of next manager being German speaker
🔹 Tuchel, Nagelsmann, Rangnick among options
🔹 Tap into influence of Bundesliga & bring best out of Werner, Havertz & others
🔹 Would also sit well in #CFC club structure📝 @domfifield & @SJohnsonSport
