Chelsea outcast Diego Costa has been stuck in limbo all summer, and has been told by Antonio Conte not to return to the club.
Now, after a summer move to Atletico Madrid failed to come off, due to a fee failing to be negotiated between the Blues and the La Liga side, he’s currently stuck for at least another few months, and has been told by one man that he needs to sort the situation out for his own future – and return to training, whoever it is with.
Sort it out
Costa has now been told by his international manager that he needs to sort out his situation, and will not be selected for Spain if this carries on.
It’s hard to blame Lopetegui there, with Costa someone who is now thought to be a way from match fitness, having also put on a serious amount of weight according to reports, while he’s been in exile in Brazil.

Even if Costa does get his move to Atletico Madrid and comes back to match fitness, the is no guarantee that he will be able to get into the Spain squad, with his Chelsea replacement Alvaro Morata someone who would be a strong contender to lead the line.
Spain have a wealth of options in terms of their squad, and have even turned to David Villa and brought the player out of retirement.
Costa is fully aware that if he wants to get into the squad come Russia 2018, he needs to make sure he’s match fit and playing every week for his club, something that is currently not happening at the minute and will not happen at Chelsea.
