Mourinho v Conte

Chelsea & Man United players court Spanish international to the Premier League

Chelsea v Man United

Spanish paper AS have posted an interesting gossip piece this week suggesting that Chelsea or Man United could sign a Spanish international defender in the summer.

Both Premier League clubs have had problems at the back this season.

Although Chelsea seem destined to win the title, the Blues have gone from having a watertight defence to having failed to keep a clean sheet in their last eight EPL matches.

As for Man United, much time has been spent this season analysing the relationship between Jose Mourinho and Luke Shaw as the left-back’s position at Old Trafford has come under threat.

So who we talking about?

Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba is the man at the centre of the transfer speculation.

He’s gone from being a regular in the Catalan team to finding himself left out the side with regularity, and that’s caused Alba to think about his future.

AS believe he’s reached out to international team mates at Chelsea and Man United about a possible move. As reported in the Spanish paper:

AS understands that Jordi Alba has consulted a number of ex-team mates and colleagues to weigh up his options in the scenario that he is forced to abandon Barça.

Cesc Fabregas and Pedro Rodríguez have both received calls from the defender to glean information on Chelsea, and they are not the only ones. He has also been in touch with Manchester United’s Spanish players.

But is a transfer likely?

The left-back recently signed a five-year contract extension at the Camp Nou which keeps him with Barcelona until 2020.
