Sarri wants support for Jorginho
Chelsea hosted Newcastle United in Saturday’s late kick-off.
The Blues were by no means at their best and were lucky to come away with all three points.
Chelsea’s goal scorers on Saturday were Willian and Pedro. Ciaran Clark netted Newcastle’s only goal of the game.
After a poor display vs Newcastle, Maurizio Sarri has urged Chelsea to sign a back-up for £57m summer signing, Jorginho.
Cesc Fabregas was said back-up but the Spaniard has recently moved to Ligue 1 side, Monaco.
Speaking about the need for a Jorginho replacement after Newcastle, Sarri stated:
“Today Jorginho was in trouble and on the bench there wasn’t a player for that position.
“I need an option for Jorginho.”
The two names being floated about to replace Fabregas are Nicolo Barella and Leandro Paredes.
When asked if it was choice between the duo, Sarri had this to say:
“I have no idea.
“It’s not too much [of a worry for me]. [If] the club is worried, I don’t know. The club knows very well my opinion. I need the player there [in that position].”
Chelsea make opening offer for Paredes
While Sarri seemed in the dark over who Chelsea are targeting as support for Jorginho, it appears the club have now made their choice.
According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea have made a bid of £26.8m for Zenit midfielder, Leandro Paredes.

Chelsea are also said to be willing to offer Paredes a four-and-a-half year deal worth around £80,000 a week.
Paredes joined Zenit in July of 2017 for a fee of around £24m.
The Argentine has gone on to play 61 games across all competitions for Zenit.
In those 61 games, Paredes has scored 10 and assisted 15.
