Chelsea interested in West Ham’s Declan Rice – Sky

Declan Rice

Rice’s West Ham stint

Despite being just 21 years of age, Declan Rice has already racked up a century of appearances for West Ham.

The Hammers youth product made his senior debut at the business end of the 2016/17 campaign, coming off the bench for one minute as West Ham earned a 2-1 victory over Burnley.

Rice has since racked up another 99 appearances across all competitions for West Ham, putting in some displays well beyond his years.

Rice’s 2018/19 was particularly impressive, and his club form also saw the midfielder earn his first senior England call-up.

The 2019/20 campaign hasn’t been as fruitful for either Rice or West Ham, but the defensive-minded midfielder’s talent has still shone through in some ties.

Chelsea eyeing Rice

Rice is currently tied down to the London outfit until at least 2024.

But despite his lengthy contract, the promising England international looks to be attracting interest from a top Premier League outfit.

Both Manchester-based clubs have previously been linked with the West Ham standout.

But it is capital giants Chelsea who now look to be keen on the midfielder.

According to Sky Sports News, Chelsea are interested in signing Rice, who is close friends with Blues midfielder Mason Mount. But the report from Sky also claims that Rice wouldn’t come cheap.

SSN claim that Chelsea were in the market for a new young defensive midfielder in January, and were one of the clubs interested in Lille’s Boubakary Soumare.

Soumare didn’t move in the winter window, but now it sounds as though Chelsea could be targeting Rice over the Ligue 1 standout.
