Chelsea Instagram appears to use Squid Game reference to target Anthony Taylor ahead of Brentford

A post on the Instagram account of Premier League giants Chelsea has turned heads online this evening, amid the club’s meeting with Brentford.

Bees test

Thomas Tuchel’s men are of course currently locked in action.

On the back of yet another early-season international break, the Blues have made the short trip to the Brentford Community Stadium, for a derby showdown with Thomas Frank’s high-flying Bees.

Chelsea headed into proceedings aiming to build on a strong opening to the season, which saw the capital giants enter the weekend sitting pretty atop the Premier League table.

Their hosts on Saturday evening, though, will prove no pushovers.

Brentford have emerged as the surprise package of the English top-flight campaign thus far, sitting pretty in 7th with 12 points on the board.

Taylor targeted?

In turn, ahead of the action getting underway in West London this evening, Thomas Tuchel was no doubt fully aware of the testing 90 minutes that lay in store for his side.

The Blues boss, as a result, would likely not have been all too impressed by the aforementioned latest activity on the part of the club’s social media team.

In the build-up to Saturday’s clash, much of the chatter amongst Chelsea’s fanbase surrounded the man selected to take charge of the action at the Brentford Community Stadium.

The tactician in question? Anthony Taylor.

Englishman Taylor has long held a reputation for favouring the opposition when overseeing the Pensioners, as showcased by the stat-line below:

When questioned on the subject of Taylor’s officiating prior to today’s matchup, though, Tuchel was keen to play the situation down:

‘I trust in the referees and I trust in Anthony Taylor that he will try to have the best performance’.

But, as outlined above, this did not prevent the club’s Instagram team from posting the following to their official account ahead of kick-off, painting Taylor as an authoritative figure from the viral Netflix series Squid Game, whilst, whether intentionally or not, simultaneously hinting that the referee would be ready to take advantage of any minor slip-ups on the part of Chelsea’s stars:
