There have been several reports over the last 24 hours concerning Chelsea eyeing new deals for a pair of Blues stars.
Giroud set for U-turn?
The first of the two players in question is Olivier Giroud.
The 2019/20 campaign has been somewhat up and down for the Frenchman.
When Frank Lampard first took the reins at Chelsea, it looked to be the beginning of the end for Giroud at Stamford Bridge.
The ageing forward saw his game time slashed, with Giroud then heavily linked with a move away from the Blues this past January.
Giroud himself also admitted that he saw himself far away from Chelsea in January.
However, shortly before the season was curtailed, Giroud looked to be back in favour under Lampard, featuring in four Premier League ties in a row.
And now, as per a report from Goal, Chelsea have opened talks with Giroud’s representatives over a new contract.
Rudiger to sign new deal?
The second player who has reportedly held some form of talks with the capital giants over a new deal is Antonio Rudiger.
The German joined the Blues in the summer of 2017 for a fee believed to be around £31.5m.
The no-nonsense centre-back has since notched just over 100 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions.
And since returning from a long-term groin injury in December of 2019, Rudiger has cemented himself as a key feature in Frank Lampard’s backline.
Now, according to Sky Sports News, Chelsea have held initial talks with Rudiger about a new long-term contract.
Sky claim that Chelsea want the defender to sign a three-year deal that also includes the option of a further year.
However, SSN also note that an agreement is not close, and discussions have been somewhat curtailed by the postponement of the season.
