Unfortunate for Qarabag
Chelsea were handed a Champions League lifeline during their game against Qarabag this evening with one huge slice of luck during the first half.
Antonio Conte’s side were struggling at the start of the game and the Azerbaijani hosts even hit the woodwork in the first 20 minutes.
Though, it was one moment just after the 20th minute that caught all the first half headlines as Chelsea were awarded a penalty.
Not only that, the Qarabag player that was adjudged to have fouled Willan in the box was sent off for the challenge.
The defender looked to have only put his arm on the Brazilian’s back who went to ground easily.
They certainly had a point too, with several on social media claiming that it was a very harsh penalty to give.
As expected, Eden Hazard scored the penalty to give Antonio Conte’s side the lead in a game they have to win to progress.
That slice of luck no doubt had an adverse effect on the game, with Chelsea able to squeeze out the side.
Brazilian forward Willian went on to get a second goal before the break and it now looks to be an impossible task for the hosts.
It’s certainly going to take something special for Qarabag to get anything out of this game now.

Been such a long time since we’ve had a classic Chelsea cheat up, so glad it’s happening

As a Chelsea fan, I gotta say that penalty was weak. PK maybe, but not a red card. #QARCHE
