Former Chelsea forward Andriy Shevchenko has claimed Alvaro Morata needs to improve his finishing – and that in order to live up to his price tag and position as the number one forward for Chelsea, he has to take the many chances that are coming his way.
It’s ironic coming from a player who was expensive at the time when Chelsea purchased him and was nothing but a sensational flop, but he had some ‘advice’ for the former Juventus and Real Madrid forward.
Standard Sport report he said: “I’ve seen a lot of him,
“He’s had a lot of chances. I think you need to improve the finishing when you have chances.
“It’s good when a striker has chances, it’s very positive. You need this for scoring goals and helping the team to win.”
Conte’s advice wasn’t much better, advising the player to just work hard and focus on getting back to full fitness after his injury.
He said in his presser: “He has to work to recover the best form after an injury in his back.
“He must have patience, we must have patience but the most important thing is for him to work.”
There are of course other options for the Chelsea boss, who has decided to go with Eden Hazard as a false nine on occasion, and that worked well against Barcelona – with the club getting a 1-1 draw and Conte seeing both Hazard and Willian shine.
The other choice would be to put his faith in January signing Olivier Giroud, who may have come into the club on the back of an injury but is ready to play, and given he left Arsenal in order to secure his place in a side and thus his spot for France in Russia this summer for the World Cup, it would certainly be a blow to him personally if Conte carried on overlooking him.
