Chelsea celebrate vs Stoke

Chelsea fans unhappy with one player despite comfortable Stoke win

Supporters of Chelsea have this afternoon taken to social media in their numbers to express their unhappiness regarding the performance of striker Alvaro Morata versus Stoke City.

The Blues welcomed Mark Hughes’ Potters to Stamford Bridge for a 3pm kick-off, having embarked on a positive recent run of form.

Antonio Conte’s men had picked up 4 wins and a draw from their last 5 outings, lifting the champions to 3rd place in the English top-flight.

Stoke, meanwhile, had managed just 1 win from their last 5 league fixtures, a 3-1 win over struggling West Brom last weekend.

The Potters sat precariously in 13th-place in the Premier League table with 20 points, just 3 points above the relegation zone coming into proceedings.

The starting XIs for both sides were announced an hour prior to kick-off, with Antonio Conte having sprung a couple of surprises with his lineup.

The main talking point came with the exclusion of Eden Hazard, who was forced to make do with a spot on the bench for the capital outfit.

Cesc Fabregas and Tiemoue Bakayoko were also left out, with Andreas Christensen not yet trusted from the start following his recent injury:

Stoke boss Mark Hughes, meanwhile, opted for 6 changes to the side which earned a 1-1 draw at Huddersfield on Tuesday night.

Shawcross, Zouma, Shaqiri, Crouch, Allen and Choupo-Moting all dropped out, with Tymon, Diouf, Adam, Affelay, Ramadan and Berahino all included from the start:

Chelsea were labelled as heavy favourites heading into this afternoon’s matchup, and took little time to prove exactly why, with goals from Antonio Rudiger and Danny Drinkwater inside the opening 10 minutes effectively putting the game to bed as a contest.

Pedro made it 3 with 23 minutes on the clock, ensuring a comfortable afternoon for the home side, before Willian capped a fine individual performance with his side’s fourth 15 minutes from time.

Defender Davide Zappacosta added gloss to the scoreline with his first Premier League goal in the 89th-minute, slamming a left-footed strike under the body of Jack Butland.

However, while it was generally a day to celebrate for fans of the Blues, one concerning aspect of their side’s performance has since had large sections of Chelsea’s fanbase up in arms on Twitter.

The issue in question was the performance of Alvaro Morata, with a particular emphasis on the Spaniard’s insistence on going to ground under little to no contact:
