Two Chelsea fans have been pictured with tape over the ‘Three’ logo on their Chelsea shirt during the match with Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge.
Three were, of course, the official sponsor of Chelsea for the 2021/22 season, but the phone company have since suspended their sponsorship after Chelsea’s owner, Roman Abramovich, was placed under sanctions by the UK government for being “associated with a person who is or has been involved in destabilising Ukraine and undermining and threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, namely Vladimir Putin, with whom Abramovich has had a close relationship for decades”.
In a statement earlier this week, Three stated: “In light of the government’s recently announced sanctions, we have requested Chelsea Football Club temporarily suspend our sponsorship of the club, including the removal of our brand from shirts and around the stadium until further notice.”
Though the partnership is still suspended, Chelsea players would wear tops with the logo included for their clash with Newcastle. The sponsor was, however, removed on the Sky player graphics ahead of kick-off.
